Looking west from the corner of East 125th Street and Lexington Avenue, a political banner dominates the scene. Amongst the candidates is the incumbent President of the United States, William Howard Taft, who was about to be soundly defeated. Taft had been Teddy Roosevelt’s Secretary of War and nearly a decade after leaving office as President, he would be appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. Beyond the banner, one can see the train station at Park Avenue, now a Metro North Station.
