125th Street is a two-way street that runs east-west, during the 18th century it was called The Hollow Way and considered the “Main Street” of Harlem (aka Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard). This photograph was taken with the photographers back to St. Nicholas Avenue (aka Eigth Avenue) and the historic Apollo Theater in the center left of the frame.
Just as it is today, 125th Street is crowded, hectic and with who knows what going on.
