2 From Harlem YMCA Win Volunteers And Youth Volunteers Of The Year Awards

Schone Malliet and Dennis Osei in harlem1The YMCA of Greater New York recognized Harlem individuals and others who embody the mission of the Y as Volunteers and Youth Volunteers of the Year, respectively, at the YMCA of Greater New York Annual General Assembly and Volunteer Recognition Ceremony at the on Wednesday, April 6, 2016. 

Here are the Harlem winners:

Volunteer of the Year from Harlem YMCA:

  • Schone Malliet (right), who is chair of the Harlem Board, was the branch’s most successful fundraiser across all of their efforts, including the Annual Campaign, Black Achievers in Industry, and our golf outing.

Youth Volunteer of the Year from Harlem YMCA:

  • Dennis Osei (left) has been a Rowe Scholar for two years, participating in an anti-bullying rally, donating to the homeless, participating in workshops to bring awareness to homelessness, spending time with the elderly, and teaching young children at his church. He’s had a tremendous impact on his fellow Rowe Scholars.

Winners from other boroughs include:  Mark Ricca, Steve Harris, Allison Downey, Niesha Foster, Brianna Quesada, Z Longo, Taren Nila, and Christopher Williams.

Each year, 3,500 volunteers make invaluable contributions that help the YMCA of Greater New York strengthen the fabric of our great City. Thanks to them, each year the Y touches the lives of more kids, families, and communities. As the largest youth-serving organization in New York, the YMCA had prided itself on attracting the most talented and caring individuals from all walks of life to help deliver much-needed services to communities throughout New York.

“Volunteers have been the lifeblood of the YMCA since the organization was founded more than 160 years ago,” says YMCA of Greater New York President and CEO Sharon Greenberger. “Each year thousands of volunteers give generously of their time and energy, smarts and creativity, to help the Y fulfill its mission of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Their extraordinary work and commitment humbles us.”
