Video Music Box 25th Anniversary

Video Music Box (VMB), the first and longest TV program ever to feature hip-hop videos will celebrate its 25 years of broadcasting this summer with twenty five events in commemoration of twenty five years.Wayyy’ before MTV thought hip-hop was cool, Ralph McDaniels, the legendary creator burst onto the hip-hop music scene and intervened pioneering the most influential vehicles of that era: Video Music Box. Wu-Tang, KRS One, LL Cool J, Queen Latifah, Jay Z are just a few music icons that VMB launched.

To celebrate this piece of history, fans and artists will come together to honor this achievement. on June 14th at 125th Street and Frederick Douglas BLVD in the Harlem . There is something for everyone and every age! We will start with an Old School Block Party hosted by Sony/Jive recording artist Lil Mama. Followed by a VIP Kickoff Event in the Magic Johnson Theater’s Hip Hop Culture Center . The stellar line-up includes big names and Hip Hop icons including Doug E. Fresh, OC, Chubb Rock and Jeru. There is something for everyone and every age.

Other Events include Central Park SummerStage presents Video Music Box Tribute Concert on July 18th; Harlem Week pay’s tribute to Ralph McDaniels and Video Music Box on August 17th, and many more shows are part of the line up including the Phat Fashion Show and the Hip Hop Film Tribute. Video Music Box transitioned Hip Hop from adolescence to maturity. This brainchild of the visionary Ralph McDaniels changed the scope of Hip Hop music, spreading its influence and creating musical icons. The veterans of Hip Hop music will attest that anybody who is somebody in the industry, is in some measure a bi-product of this transforming vehicle.

Having amassed innumerable fans and achieved unanticipated strides, Ralph McDaniels reinvigorated the pulse of a once overlooked genre by pioneering the VMB. Today the pulse of Hip Hop beats strong and steady, and without a doubt, the 25 year run of the VMB is deserving of its homage.

2008 meets Uncle Ralph still committed to his marriage to Hip Hop and from its inception to now, Video Music Box has proved that it is well deserving of its legacy. June through August will host a variety of shows and an incredible line-up of events. With a reputation that precedes him for over two decades, the popularity and influence of Video Music Box is not soon to be diminished. And behind it all, a humble, soft spoken power house leader.
