Here’s a personal Q & A posed to a mover and shaker in Long Island by LI Confidential. They didn’t ask about his underwear, but they asked him about, among other things, his commutes, guilty pleasures and who impressed them. In this case they spoke to Basil Paterson, Gov. David Paterson’s dad, and member of Meyer, Suozzi, English and Klein:Commute? About 45 minutes from Harlem to Garden City.
Car? A car. Let’s leave it at that.
Current book? A biography of Sugar Ray Robinson. When I was a kid he hung out about a block from where I lived. I knew him as a terrific stickball player. I later became quite a stickball player and I’m in the Harlem Stickball Hall of Fame.
Mets or Yankees? Mets. My son and I were driving by the night before Shea Stadium opened in 1964. I saw lights and we stopped. The construction workers invited us in. We walked on the field the night before they played the first game.
Greatest misconception of you? I was speaking at Columbia University recently and heard so many nice things about me, I thought, ‘Amazing how charming I’ve become since my son became governor.’
Piece of advice he gave his son on becoming governor? I said, ‘I’ve known every governor since Nelson Rockefeller and none of them were any smarter than you.’
