This is the last of three interviews with the swim designers in partnership wth Tod Roulette, Exective Director of the Senator Chuck Allen III Fundraiser on August 23rd at St. Phillips Church. In a very creative twist writer Kirk Shannon-Butts asked all of the designers Soony, Dominique Sade and Daequan Andino the same questions, but received very different answers as they discuss life community and love.

Daequan starts by discussing trends and his connection to Bad Boy:

Kirk Shannon-Butts: What is the name of your brand?
Daequan Andino: Ay’Medici By D. S. Andino
KB: When did you form the company?
DA: August 2007
KB: Why did you decide to design swimwear?
DA: I had a lot of requests to add my flavor to swimwear.

KB: What trend(s) are presenting in your collection?
DA: The trends my clients want include vibrant colors, ruffled waistlines, plunging necklines and boy short bottoms.

KB: How do you get inspired?
DA: I get inspired by anything and everything, as a designer my eyes are constantly on the go.

KB: Who is your consumer?
DA: My consumer is females 16 and over.

KB: Can everybody wear your designs?
DA: Yes.  My designs are universal, I do not discriminate against any body types.  I can design a swimsuit that fits you perfectly.  It’s one of a kind to highlight your body.

KB: Describe your designs?
DA: My designs are sexy and full of attraction. They are made to turn heads. They have a ³wow factor.”

KB: Where can readers find your brand?
DA: I make custom pieces for each client.

KB: In our celebrity obsessed culture – has your designs been spotted on any celebs?
DA: Yes, I¹ve styled Bad Boy artist Cherri Dennis for her upcoming tour.

KB: What’s next for the brand?
DA: Currently I am working on my Fall RTW collection, but you can look out for Ay¹Medici Magazine coming this October.  We also have a youth program that uses fashion as the outlet for youth to think outside the box
and remove the word ³cant² from their vocabulary.

KB: Tell me swimwear tips for looking perfect on the beach?
DA: Make sure you have a nice hat for the boardwalk and also some shades to add more to your look. I wound also recommend a cover-up or lightweight jacket for night time. Lastly coordinate your look.

KB: Is your swimwear only for the beach?
DA: No, its for all occasions.

KB: Tell me something cool about yourself?
DA: I am the most energetic, funny, fabulous and drive passionate person. I take what I do seriously.  I will jump over any road blocks to achieve my goal of being on top of the Fashion Industry.

KB: Why should our reader purchase your wears?

KB: How did you get involved with the Senator Chuck Allen Scholarship Fund?
DA: I got involved through someone who was already active with the scholarship and referred me to participate.

KB: Why is it important for designers to get involved with charities and community events?
DA: I believe that it is important to be involved as much as possible.  Reaching out the community will enhance their views about you and broaden your appeal to potential consumers.
