First this must be said. Craig Schley came out of nowhere less than one year ago at a 125th Street Rezoning meeting. He does not really know Harlem. He uses the ideas and work of others who know Harlem to get over. He used the 125th Street Rezoning as a way for him to get a lot of media face time that he felt would help “position” him to run against Rangel.
Charlie Rangel needs to go but a seasoned Harlemite who really knows the Village of Harlem should replace him. Not an opportunistic and manipulative Harlem “newbie” who is trying to get a name for himself while attempting to “get over” on Harlemites.
This Wilhelmina Model man is attempting to hook on to the discontent of Harlem Residents with the present crop of sorry Harlem Politicians. He is also hoping that the Harlem Community does not carefully examine him and his past/present deeds too closely. In other words, as mentioned above, he sees this as an opportunity to “get over” on Harlemites because of their anger towards Rangel.
Harlemites should definitely be angry with Rangel but not so angry as to allow Craig Schley’s fake concern for Harlem and the 125th Street Rezoning to blind them to his (Craig Schley’s) manipulation of the present painful state of politics in Harlem.
This guy is slick because along with banking on the Harlem Community’s massive dissatisfaction with Charlie Rangel he is also attempting to “hook on” to Obama’s call for change. As indicated above he will use the ideas and work of others to push through his own (real) agenda. And also, as previously indicated, Charlie needs to go but this “Model of Distraction” should not be the one to replace him. Mr. Slick Schley has attempted to use the email of other groups to get himself known, piggy backed on other groups’ rallies to give a false impression that he is leading these groups, is the executive director of vote people that has abused human rights (although it claims to be for human rights) and has yet (it is believed) to stop using a web site to which it has not been given rights to.
Last this must be said, Craig Schley came out of nowhere and he needs to go back there for the good of the Village of Harlem.

i can point out many things wrong with Rangel but not on Craig Schley

craig schley is not really the man he claims to be . it is unfortunate that people n this country are allowed the opportunity to run for office despite their true characteristics he is not as upstanding as you may believe. i hope that the people of harlem really research their candidates. do you really think that you know craig schley as a person. i would say that many people do not know his true character good luck people of harlem. this man is not what he seems to be and it is unfortunate that what you see and have heard so far is not really the heart of this man. he is not barack obama. and harlem will be in for a rude awakening if he is chosen to represent you. once again good luck harlem.
he is a man who took me to court for visitation with his daughter claiming that i wouldn’t allow him to see his daughter when intact he lost his visitation right in 2001. in 2005 he petitioned the bronx courts to decrease the child support he was sending. this case just fizzled. i was never required to go to court. he never pursued this. then again in 2006 he petitioned the Manhattan family court against me for visitation knowing all the while that his rights had been suspended but he never informed his 1st lawyer of this. why wouldn’t you tell this to your lawyer? but during this case he has had 3 lawyers the last one is ms erica razook. to my surprise i recently discovered from the court that the case has been settled in november 2007. how can a case be closed without the opposing side being informed? when i went to the court records department to get a copy of the file. the file which had been closed in 2007 unbeknownst to my lawyer and i couldn’t be found. the court is trying to locate the file for me. i intend to make sure craig schley does not petition me again as it doesn’t seem that he is really interested in visitation. seems to me that he is more interested in harassing me by taking me to court every few years. i intend to recover my court costs. if he was really interested in seeing his child why did he close the case. and why is he instead focusing his attention on politics? if i recall he became involved with the rezoning of harlem about the same time the case was closed?
Let the man see his child you dont need the courts the judges or anyone else to make it happen. There will come a day when your child will seek out her father….and you will not be able to stop her. Do the right thing try to foster a postive relationship between the two. Your relationship with Mr Schley may be strained and he may not have been fair with you I dont know, I am not familiar with either of you but I do know how important a healthly relationship is between and daughter and a father…….
craig schley has my vote! like all candidates, you never REALLY know what you’re getting until they get into office….so, whenever we cast a vote, especially for someone new, yes, we are taking a chance. i appreciate mr. schley’s efforts, however, and the fact that he has put himself on the front-line when the rest of us are simply sitting around complaining. i am not going to knock him for wanting/trying to take part in political change!
docfortots: your story was very interesting but, aside from putting mr. schley’s deeply personal business in the streets, what does any of that have to do with his ability to run or lead effectively? in terms of considering him as a candidate, your post was irrelevant and one-sided.
true-harlemite: i have seen your posts all over the internet. bravo – you’ve made your presence known! many people know you and understand, however, that you are a disgruntled ex-worker from vote people for change, craig’s organization; you have even been witnessed harassing him verbally and physically in public spaces. you seem to be fairly articulate and i am sorry that you are not using your voice and energy for more positive endeavors. it must feel awful to spend your days and nights spewing hate, especially when you’ve offered no solid facts as to why people should not vote for him. if it is simply because he fired you, then perhaps you should keep that to yourself, seek professional help, or find some positive activities to engage in so you’re not sitting around stewing over it 24-7. you are in need of healing, and i hope you find it. in the mea time, it is certainly your prerogative to vote mr. rangel in for another term….or run for the office yourself, if you feel you can do a better job.
i have been in and out of court for several years having to pay for representation . money that as a single parent getting only $50 /wk and nothing else, i could have used for my daughter. every time i have been taken to court he disappears and i have wasted time, effort repsonding to his petitions. his lasted petition against me has been “settled” closed” by him, the petitioner according to the courts. i just spent over 10,000 for representation and now the case was closed, and no less by him. that says a lot about his desire to visit with his child. and just think , if he didn’t close the case, why is he no longer pursuing it. it’s been a year. another case against me out the window. i guess the people of harlem and having his name out there is much more important. the court if helping to understand how a case could be settled without the opposing side. if craig schley had a good heart, he would not have lied to the courts about the visits and he would have been man enough to admit his faults. god teaches forgiveness and so could i. but to have lies presented to a court about me is not acceptable. i need a good role model for my daughter. it is just too bad it isn’t her father. unfortunately for my daughter. but i tell you she is the best kid! and i will do what ever it takes to make sure she has the best that i can offer! good luck harlem . this man is not who he appears to be. i gues i’m glad he focused his attention on harlem. now, i am able to use my extra money for my daughter.
this coming election we will all be choosing someone to represent us and hopefully our will. this issue regarding craig schley and his ability is essentially his character. if you choose to elect someone who proclaims to be so much in support of children but falls short when it comes to his own child. he is manipulative and conniving. perhaps what you expect of your representatives. the very fact that he would behave in such a many when interactions regarding his child speaks to how much of a man he is. is he cannot stand honestly in support of his own child how can he stand for your community. he is a nasty man and unfortunately is standing before you asking for your vote. for you to trust him. and i suggest that he is not the man he claims to be. he will do everything and anything if it benefits himself. he is truly a slick character with devious ways. he is well dressed trouble but really wicked. i know because i sat cross from him in court. i know the struggles i have had in dealing with him over the last 12 years. i know what he is capable of because i experienced it. so “om” you are right. my view is one sided. a valid statment. but i stand behind everything i say and have no reason to create tales.
we are judged by what we say and what we do. it shows others who we really are. and he has not been the upstanding man that he appears to be. he was wicked to me i court and this was just before he became involved in the rezoning of harlem and then running for congress. my case just seemed to have disappeared and one day i found him campaigning. i guess this wouldn’t look too good for him being involved in a visitation dispute. would it? this is why i believed my comment to be relavent. he saw an opportunity for himself and he decided that his petition was not as important. if you choose to elect someone with his moral standards that is for you to decide. i would hope that we all could find better representatives in general. good luck again. i am glad at least his attention is not focused on taking me to court but instead he is now trying to take advantage of harlem politics. i consider myself lucky until the next time he takes me to court which seems to be every few years. so i will look at this as a blessing for now. remember models are illusions.
as for ty, wouldn’t it have been nice ifhe had done right by his child? the situation as it stand was caused by his lack of interest. he started out full visitations since my daughter was an infant and the court decided against him . not me that was in 2001. he showed up again in 2005 then again in 2006. i don’t have timefor nonsense i have a child to raise. will the best morals that i can that is my focus. my responsibility to my child. and she has become a great student and fun person. take interest in your children and the right relationship will develop. unfortunately for mr schley he nor his family did this.

Docfortots, putting Craig’s personal business out in the streets wouldn’t convince an intelligent person not to vote for him because it is one sided. But OM, you say that what does any of that have to do with his ability to run or lead effectively? If it is true it has a lot to do with everything. If his moral judgment is not good with one or two people you think that his morality leading a district is going to be good? We just don’t know how true it is.
But it does seem that Mr. Schley came from nowhere. And what has he really done besides challenge the 125th Street Rezoning? I attended those community board meetings and the one down city hall and it seems that other people had a better grasp of the rezoning than Schley. In fact their voices are still heard and there are documents being circulated around Harlem that weren’t authored by Schley.
True Harlemite definitely seems like he/she has it out for him. It sounds personal.
My main concern is that Schley has not demonstrated what he’ll do or how he’ll do it. But I give him credit for running. However, I just won’t vote for him unless I learn more about his past effectiveness.

We all have to get past things we don’t like ..like rejection of someone who obviously does NOT want anything to do with you.. you can’t even come presentable in a public or professional environment..so how do you expect someone to be interested in you on a personal level ! And isn’t it interesting how you mention repeatably Mr.Schley’s former profession as a model; I guess you’ve always had a fantasy to be involved w/one. I don’t see Craig Schley as one trying to “get over” on someone as you frequently rehash about him. He is one, among a few, who I see are really DOING something about what is going on here in Harlem. Ms Doc for Tots his ex girlfriend the pediatrician right? You should be ashamed of yourself. Its been HOW MANY YEARS NOW since you both broke up? What kind of woman and an educated doctor nonetheless would keep her daughter from knowing her father. First of all…on your medical salary you really don’t need child support from this man but even if its $50 a week then so be it. You CANNOT put a price on what having a father involved in your daughters life means. Schley has put himself thru school, not just any school but NYU, now he’s trying to do something positive in his community and its still not enough for you to say hey, this is your dad. He and I didn’t work out but he’s trying to make a difference. Show your daughter that her father isn’t like most of the negative images that are presented to us all by the media. Instead you can’t move passed the rejection despite your own education and the doctors that you have available for treatment. It’s time to MOVE ON D IT’S TIME.
Imagine how healthy it would be for your daughter if the three of you could just move on.
Harlemite seems like a true mess and I’ll leave it at that. Her venum speaks for itself.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Mr Schley has had help from other women from his past that are able to rise above the end of their relationship with him and embrace the positive aspects of what he is about. Not because they have delusions of what could be…but because they are GROWN and able to move on. I urge you to do the same ladies.

Level Headed you sound like you are the one having a desired relationship with Craig Schley given the way you are defending him. You obviously came into this late and are only repeating what you have been told. It is a shame that some Black men try to cover up their thievery by lying on women and implying that the women want relationships with them. Pay your bills and stop lying Craig. This behavior reflects on what kind of a politician you would be. Just another liar.
Vote People began late last year. It consisted of Craig, Erika and a group of Black Women. The women in the group brought different expertise to the group. Since Craig had no expertise in anything relevant to getting Vote People up and running.
None of the women other than Erika had an obvious “relationship” with Craig despite Craig and Erika’s thinly veiled attempts to cover it up.
Also, no one was employed by Craig. It was crystal clear that you were ignorant of the facts when you indicated that on the HarlemWorldblog.
Craig misrepresented the mission of the group. Initially he made it look like it was about fighting against the 125th Street Rezoning. Craig was actually forming the group so he could run against Charlie Rangel. This mission change was disclosed after a large amount of work was put into the Vote People by the Black women. Erika was aware of his plans and attempted to manipulate the rest of the group into going along with him.
The group which had no bylaws or formal procedures, eventually broke up because of Craig’s changing of the mission, constant bullying and insults. Erika seemed to like it, the Black women didn’t. The women asked for their work back since they had not legally released it to Vote People. He and Erika have refused to return the work and have continued to use their work. Craig then moved on to joining other groups in order to get members for Vote People.
It is also common knowledge that earlier this year, Craig was allowed to enter a meeting that was being held by esteemed Black women in the community by misrepresenting why he wanted to speak to them. After he was allowed into the meeting he began to abuse, berate and and accuse the women of using him and Vote People. This is another example of his misrepresentation and abuse of women he attempted to use and felt he no longer needed to help him achieve his goals.
Now, there appears to be someone with a child claiming harassment from him over many years. Seems like he misrepresented himself to her as well.
Lies, Lies, Lies.
What next?
Probably more lies.
Harlem better wake up to Craig Schley before it is too late.

I have known Craig for more than 10 years; living in Harlem for about 13 years. I am not sure when you “officially” become a Harlemite, but I have worked in Harlem, lived in Harlem, improved Harlem, believe in Harlem, support Harlem and LOVE Harlem.
Ever since I met Craig, he has lived IN Harlem, told me about Harlem and supported the community. He has shared with me what he believed in, what he would like to improve. The only difference is: he is doing it now!!
So, I am asking you: have you done YOUR research?? What do you really know about Craig?

No wonder our nation is in an economic, social and cultural downside…We are so busy gossiping about things which do not concern the governing of a nation or the issues facing us. What we need is someone who knows the decaying system and will be the voice and make a change in Policy & legislation….Please stop tossing rocks at each other – Not one of us is without flaw or sin. As an Upper Manhattan resident for the last 30 years, I am interested in a thorough, fact-based vetting of Rangel’s challengers. Thus far it’s not happening on this gossip-mill. (Nicely-designed, well meaning, but pettily salacious, nevertheless.) Can anyone recommend a site where I can gain researched, objective facts?
