New York International Independent Film & Video Festival announces Abel Ferrara as President. NYIIFVF’s March 2009 Festival features the work of Iggy Pop, Mick Rock, Amanda Righetti (The new Friday the 13th, The Mentalist), Lloyd Kaufman and Tony Bennett.

The New York International Independent Film & Video Festival is proud to announce that Abel Ferrara is President of this festival. The NYIIFVF continues to be the voice of independent film, launching many careers and successes from our festivals in New York and LA.

NYIIFVF runs from March 19th-26th in Manhattan and will showcase a diverse range of features, shorts, documentaries and animations from all over the globe. The opening night kick-off party takes place at Boulevard (199 Bowery at Spring St., NYC, NY) on Thursday, March 19th. Film screenings begin Friday, March 20th through March 26th on 2 screens at City Cinemas Village East (181 2nd Avenue at 12th Street, NYC, NY). **Abel Ferrara will host the Festival’s Official Filmmaker Luncheon and will be in attendance during the eight-day film extravaganza. **

In keeping with NYIIFVF’s unique and successful formula of 15 years, more than 100 films will be screened in the competition covering every topic and country imaginable. Genres include: Rockumentary, Sci-Fi, Animation, Music Video, Social Satire, Historical, Drama, Black Comedy, Mystery, Suspense, Travel Docu-Features, Action, Horror, Thriller, Experimental, Educational, War, Crime, Fantasy, Inspirational, Gay, Transgender, Romance, as well as a compelling slate of top notch documentaries. A dark stranger (Amanda Righetti, The Mentalist, Friday the 13th) digs deep into the psyche of an amnesiac woman to uncover the horrible truth behind her memory loss. Based on the play by Nicole Dufresne.

Starring singing legend Tony Bennett, A Gift of Love confirms that it is only in giving that we receive.

Mick Rock/Iggy Pop: Raw Power Redux
Legendary rock star Iggy Pop and legendary photographer Mick Rock come together again for a brilliant photo session. In addition, Rock displays the photo history he shares with Iggy over thirty-five years of greatness.

Tromatized: Meet Lloyd Kaufman
Tromatized: Meet Lloyd Kaufman is a portrait of legendary American film company Troma Inc., an independent, New York-based production house that has specialized in Z-films for over 30 years, and of Troma’s eccentric president, Lloyd Kaufman.

Cry
Cry is a feature length modern ghost story based on the Celtic legend of the banshee, featuring Colleen Conroy and Joey Klein, who recently appeared one-on- one with Denzel Washington in Ridley Scott’s American Gangster.

TWO MINUTE HEIST
Starring: Dan Deluca (The Wired) Slacker Dino Rado and his uptight partner Steven Sheere made a bad investment. They borrowed the money to fund a B-movie that flopped big time and now the Jamaican Mob wants its money back. As a last resort, they steal an idea from a screenplay and cast unsuspecting actors to pull off a real heist. Their plan was flawless until they put it into action. They didn’t plan on shootings, kidnappings, and falling in love.

We Are Munster
