- Uptown Arts Stroll 2009 Poster Contest – Deadline: Friday, March 13 @ 5pm
Northern Manhattan’s annual visual and performing arts festival will return this June and we are calling for submissions for the Uptown Arts Stroll 2009 poster contest. The NoMAA Artists’ Salon series continues with an event where artists of all disciplines can exhibit their work, perform, network, and create partnerships with each other. This Salon is presented in partnership with Workspace Offices•Studios and offers artists the opportunity to see office spaces that could be turned into artists spaces, painters studios, rehearsal rooms, etc. We will also present the finalists for the Uptown Arts Stroll 2009 Poster Contest where the winning image will be selected by community vote at this event! HBO has teamed with THE NEW YORK INTERNATIONAL LATINO FILM FESTIVAL (NYILFF) to find the next hot Latino Filmmaker. The HBO/NYILFF Short Film Competition is an opportunity where the winner receives $15,000 in funding to produce and direct on digital video (DV) an original short film narrative. The final film produced from the winning screenplay will be presented on-screen this summer during the 2009 New York International Latino Film Festival.

Grant / Beca: Harpo Foundation – Call for Proposals

The foundation only gives grants to non-profit institutions that support artists who are under recognized by the field. This applies to all artists whether emerging or further along in their careers. Proposals to the foundation can take the form of installations, public interventions, residencies and exhibitions where the artist is commissioned to create new work. The foundation’s grants must only be used for artist’s honorarium and direct cost of the project. Grants will usually not exceed $10,000.

The Museum offers a 12 month studio residency for three emerging artists. Each artist is granted a free non-living studio space, a $20,000 fellowship, and a $1,000 material stipend. Internship / Prácticas: Museum of the City of New York
The Museum of the City of New York is offering two intern positions to digitize 90,000 historic images from the Museum’s photography collections. The positions are to last one year with possibility of extension. Tasks will include file management, file acquisition, quality assurance, traffic of collections for imaging, traffic documentation, and liaising with the curatorial and registrar’s departments.
Ideally the candidates will have a strong interest in digital imaging projects involving historical materials, and in managing databases for large collections of archival materials. Candidates must have the ability to use care in handling fragile materials and to work methodically at defined tasks. Some college is preferred, but those with a high school diploma and an enthusiasm for the task are welcome to apply. Candidates residing in the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone are preferred. Applicants must be available to start immediately.

The Bronx Museum of the Arts in partnership with Design Trust for Public Space, has launched Intersections: The Grand Concourse Beyond 100, an international ideas competition. Open to all, the competition solicits bold visions from architects, planners, artists, designers, students, area residents, and others, that illustrate and describe how the Bronx and the Grand Concourse can evolve in coming decades to cope with pressing needs for housing, green space, and transportation.
Up to 7 finalists will be awarded a $1,000 cash stipend to further develop their proposal for inclusion in the exhibition Intersections: The Grand Concourse at 100 – Future at The Bronx Museum of the Arts, opening Nov. 1, 2009. A $5,000 first prize will be awarded to one of the seven finalists at the exhibit’s opening. Honorable Mentions will be awarded to up to 50 submissions, and will be displayed digitally during the exhibit in the Museum’s North Wing Lobby and also in an online gallery on the competition website.

This is a common sense approach to Acting, relying on practice and feedback from other members in a non-pressured setting, in place of the traditional teacher; it is meant to be a starting place for those who haven’t yet decided if they are serious about Acting.
