Here’s a an interview with broadcasting executive Percy E. Sutton served as Manhattan borough president between 1966 and 1977, and at that time was New York state’s highest ranking black elected official.
A lawyer by training, Sutton built a small media empire that included one of New York City’s top radio stations and Harlem’s landmark Apollo Theater. He was also the attorney for slain civil-rights leader Malcolm X and his surviving family, before passing today.
