Kuti’s in Harlem

Kuti’s
Devotees who lamented the closing of acclaimed French-African eatery Korhogo 126 in Carroll Gardens can get off the Prozac—sorta: Owner Abdhul Traore has resurfaced in Harlem with this West African shawarma takeout counter serving some of Korhogo’s dishes, like the burger (made with nuts) and shrimp piri piri (sautéed shrimp with West African ratatouille). The shawarmas ($5), though, are the money shot. Unlike Middle Eastern ones, these are borne out of the influence of Lebanese settlers in West Africa, and are therefore made with meats typically cooked in the region: cow brain, tongue and liver. The shawarmas are also wrapped and pressed—panini-style—creating little meat pockets filled with peas, lettuce and parsley. Betcha don’t see that at your corner falafel street cart.
