Uptown Magazine, the luxury lifestyle publication for affluent African Americans, announced its expansion into the Philadelphia and Detroit markets, effective with the June/July issue. Both Philadelphia and Detroit were selected based upon their status as cultural centers for the African American community.
Founded in 2004, Uptown Magazine delivers fashion, lifestyle, political and entertainment content specifically created for this previously hard to reach demographic.
“As part of our continued growth plan, Uptown will expand into Detroit and Philadelphia,” said Len Burnett, Co-CEO and group Publisher of Uptown Magazine. “Both cities are hotbeds of creativity in the affluent African American community,” he added.
Uptown Magazine is currently available in a national edition as well as regional editions covering Washington DC, Chicago, Atlanta, NYC, Charlotte and Los Angeles. Detroit and Philadelphia editions will launch effective with the June/July issue.
The April/May 2010 issue of Uptown Magazine (on newsstands April 13th) features “Just Wright” co-stars Queen Latifah and Common, discussing their shared journey from music to movies and teaming up as an unlikely couple in a romantic comedy in theatres in May.
“The April/May issue offers readers a preview into hot spring trends in entertainment, travel, fashion and politics”
Other featured stories include “72 Hours in Cartagena,” a tour of Colombia’s coastal city, an interview with Grey’s Anatomy heartthrob Jesse Williams and a profile of Newark, NJ Mayor Cory Booker as he fights crime and prepares for re-election. Car aficionados can get in the driver’s seat with Jaguar’s new XJR convertible.
“The April/May issue also gives readers a preview into hot spring trends in entertainment, travel, fashion and politics,” said Brett Wright, Co-Founder and Chief Creative Officer. “We’re thrilled to have both Queen Latifah and Common back on Uptown’s cover.”
