CIELO ABIERTO: Rooftop Films at El Museo
El hombre de al lado (The Man Next Door)
Saturday, June 12, 7:00pm – 9:30pm, El Rufo
The star of this dry and wicked black comedy is a building: The Curutchet House in La Plata, south of Buenos Aires—the only residence designed by Le Corbusier in the Americas. In this Argentine satire about class, love of beautiful things, and violent urges, world-famous interior designer Leonardo, his wife, and daughter cherish living in the house. But then, horror strikes when a neighbor puts a window in the wall facing the family’s courtyard! With scalpel-like precision, filmmakers Mariano Cohn and Gaston Duprat chart the ebb and flow of this dramatic disturbance. [Dir. Mariano Cohn & Gaston Duprat, Argentina, 2009; 103 min. In Spanish with English subtitles].
Admission: $10, or FREE for El Museo members. Space is limited! Purchase your tickets at www.rooftopfilms.com. El Museo members, please RSVP 24 hours prior to showtime to 212-660-7103 or members@elmuseo.org. In the event of rain, screening will be held indoors.

La cuerda floja (The Tightrope)
This touching documentary tells the story of a family that tries to maintain their old-fashioned circus afloat because they firmly believe in the transcendence of their art. The performances are evocative and the performers passionate, but the crowds are getting small. Is the noble search for glory giving way to the mere struggle for survival? [Dir. Nuria Ibanez, Mexico, 2009; 80 min.
CIELO ABIERTO: Rooftop Films at El Museo
Saturday, August 14, 7:00pm – 9:30pm, El Rufo
Waste Land
A wonderfully resonant documentary that chronicles artist Vic Muniz’s experience in Jardim Gramacho, the world’s largest landfill located on the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro. Muniz photographs and collaborates with an eclectic band of catadores, or self-designated pickers of recyclable materials as they recycle their lives and society’s garbage. Walker, who gained fantastic access to the entire process, offers stirring evidence of the transformative power of art and the dignity that can be found in personal determination. [Dir. Lucy Walker, U.K./Brazil, 2009; 98mins. In Portuguese with English subtitles].
Admission: $10, or FREE for El Museo members. Space is limited! Purchase your tickets at www.rooftopfilms.com. El Museo members, please RSVP 24 hours prior to showtime to Jillian Rodriguez at 212-660-7103 or jrodriguez@elmuseo.org. In the event of rain, screening will be held indoors.
