Summer Nights Free Concert Series

This annual free outdoor concert series will take place on eight consecutive Thursday evenings from June 17–August 5. El Museo celebrates the diversity of contemporary Latin music with a lineup that features a range of sounds, alternating each week from die-hard Salsa and other traditional Latin forms to emerging music styles. Appealing to audiences of all ages and interests, this concert series showcases exciting performances of national and international musicians.

Folklore Urbano

Modern Colombian music is redefined in fresh, lively, provocative dimensions every time Pablo Mayor’s Folklore Urbano hits the stage. This powerhouse 12-member orchestra seamlessly fuses the danceable swing of traditional Colombian rhythms with the lush subtleties of contemporary jazz harmonies and unique arrangements. Like a feisty chef, leader Pablo Mayor then adds explosive horns and soaring, colorful vocalists to produce a tasty, sultry, addictive blend!

El Museo hosts the 7th Annual Encounter of Colombian Musicians in New York, featuring nearly twenty of New York’s renowned Colombian musical ensembles as well as special guests from Colombia, including guest of honor renowned folk singer Totó La Momposina and her son and musical director, percussionist Marco Vinicio Oyaga. This celebrated event highlights Colombia’s musical treasures and its multiple rhythms like cumbia, currulao, vallenato, bambuco, and more. Please find full schedule attached.

Once a month, El Museo del Barrio opens its doors to everyone interested in exploring the vibrancy and diversity of Latino culture. Through free concerts, exhibitions, gallery tours, art making workshops, walking tours, film screenings, and spoken word recitals, SUPER SABADO! showcases traditions, cultural expressions, and the latest in Latino art.

What are you doing this summer? This month, Super Sábado invites you to use your passion, talent, and skills to help improve your community. *THE LEGENDARY PROJECT

El Museo del Barrio presents its first-ever NYC Gay Pride celebration event. The Legendary Project, a staged modern dance performance by contemporary choreographer and director, Ferdinand De Jesus, is based on the spoken word/music collaborations of Nuyorican poet Emanuel Xavier and producer El David. Through dance and movement, The Legendary Project celebrates our very own Latino Gods, angels, kings and queens, poets and dancers.
