CNN’s “African Voices” goes to Sweden to meet the woman (aka his mother) who adopted Marcus Samuelsson (she doesn’t really sweat the celebrity-chef thing so long as he calls once a week), as well as to Harlem (where he lives and) where the Red Rooster chef currently gives cooking classes in his apartment and met his wife, Maya Haile. Though he dances around the question of whether he’d open a grocery store in the neighborhood, he does delve into why Merkato 55 closed, saying he doesn’t think it’s because the food was African, but rather more because it was too big for its own good.
