Target has opened their first store in Harlem, East Harlem to exact, and what better place than Harlem! On July 20th 2010, Target held an exclusive “in – store party” meet and greet where designers, the media and fab fashionista’s mingled and mixed. The event celebrated the new 174,000 square foot superstore on the East River Plaza (at East 116th street). Many familiar faces from the fashion and music world were in attendance from Tracey Reese, Harlemites Stephan Burrows, and Doug E. Fresh, to Angie Martinez, Ruban and Isabel Toledo, just to name a few.

As impressive as the resasonably priced fabulous fashions were, they weren’t as impressive as the donations being made by the designers.

Target is donating 5% of its proceeds from the collabs to local non-profits throughout Harlem. Stephen Burrows’s colorblocked dresses will help support the library at The Young Women’s Leadership School of East Harlem…

…kitchenwares by celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson will go to Harlem PS 180, and towels and bathing suits by Isabel and Ruben Toledo will benefit El Museo del Barrio.
