BLACK GIRLS ROCK! INC. is a 501c3 nonprofit, youth empowerment mentoring organization established as a reaction to the often seen negative images consistently imprinted upon Black women expressly in mass media. BLACK GIRLS ROCK! INC.’s mission is to encour- age positive life-changing activity and critical thinking through the arts for “at risk” teenage women of color to help foster their dreams of a better tomorrow without comprising their integrity and self-worth today. By speaking to the next generation of young women of color during their formative years on issues of self-worth, goals, and aspirations, and the images of women in our present day culture, the organization reinforces the message that young women need not objectify themselves or relinquish their autonomy. BLACK GIRLS ROCK! seeks to build the self-esteem and self-worth of young women of color by changing their outlook on life, broadening their horizons, and helping them to empower themselves. The name alone is an AFFIRMATION! BLACK GIRLS ROCK! has boldly taken on the crisis of our female youth of color here in America head on and understands the need for positive self-images and a strong sense of awareness. WE SEE SOLUTIONS. Get you t-shirt and rock with the girls.

Just want to commend you on such a fabulous show on BET. I keep playing various clips over and over. It has been so very inspirational as I Rock on, to becoming all that I was made and told I could be.

Your organization is doing a fine job, and never fail to do your finest millions of young women and even grown ones are depending on you for inspiration. Needless to say, I am awesomely inspired.

  8. I love what your organization is doing and also loved the award show. I had hoped to purchase several Black Girls Rock t-shirts for family and friends, but alas I was disappointed to find that none of the shirts were available in plus sizes are available. I hope that changes in the future.

  9. Love the show on Saturday it was amazing – but where can we buy a black girls rock tee-shirt in the UK? Please send me the link as I would love to purchase some as christmas presents.

  10. Why are the prices so high? $62 for a tshirt, geesh’

  11. I finally had a chance to sit and watch BGR …it was inspiring and gave me such a sense of pride. I wanted to do something to support the organization, so I found the website regarding t-shirts. Thinking I can purchase as Xmas presents for my daughter, granddaughter and nieces..unfortunately way, way out of my price range and no plus sizes. Big Girls Rock, TOO! If possible, please create affordable items for those of us who can’t afford Beverly Hills price tag.

  12. I loved the show and the organization, thank you. It’s makes my child feel good about herself after all the struggles she have overcome and knows it was for a reason. She wants a BLACKGIRLSROCK sweat shirt with a logo of a black Balellrina on it , because that is who she is.

  17. I’m all for looking at the glass being always full but black women still have a long way to go as far as working from the inside out. Why oh Why can we not rock using our own identy our OWN NATURAL HAIR.. I have only glimsed the Black Girls Rock website and as soon as I was faced with the same old Nia Long, Missy Elliot etc ect I stopped.. What’s so scarey about rocking your own natural hair that you were born with, yes it fluffs up and won’t stay straight because it’s not suppose to be straight but force the poor folicles to stay down..Some of These Women slapped on the website are still standing proud of who we are and what we’ve (excuse the punn) acheived once again a ton of woven hair in our heads costing more than a small appartment. This to me looks a bit like a half hearted attempt to say to the CORCASIAN world, that we love who we are but we still prefer your hair than ours.. Sista’s shall we try again? But well done for getting this far..

  18. i would like the same hoodie the woman has in the picture, where can i oder the same one?

  19. Do a search on our site and you’ll find it.

  20. @Memphis…why should a black woman have to wear her hair natural in order to rock? What makes everyone unique is the ability to be yourself however you want to rock it. I’ve worn my hair relaxed, natural, weaved & wigs…I’m natural now but that’s because if my personal journey… I go back & forth with wigs and weaves, but because I want to. Each person has a right to like what they like and should without criticism. U don’t like relaxers then don’t use them but down someone else because they don’t share ur opinion…I’m not trying to be rude, I just think everyone has a right to be themselves however they see themselves.

  21. Can your organization please make plus size t shirts and hoodies???

  22. Hello…I saw the special on BET! It was very inspirational and a positive influence for all Black women. I loved the special so much that I wanted to sport one of the BLACK GIRLS ROCK T-shirts. However, after checking out your website, I noticed the sizes only go up to large. Where are the extra larges, 1x, 2x? I need an x-large…..I’m a thick Black girl and I want to rock too.

  23. Yo, I was looking for a gift for my niece, for Christmas! This will go perfect with the outfit I’m purchasing for her.

  24. Black Girls Rock just because. We are the most innovative, attractive, and intelligent people in the world. I love my skin color.

  25. Sharon McElveen Roussel

I Love the “Black Girl Rocks” shirts but in order to have donation sent to you the price of the shirt are just too expensive…I wanted to buy them for friends and daughters but at $65.00 a shirt…sorry. You have “black girl rocks” shirts and NONE ARE FOR PLUS SIZE women, I really thought we are talking about self esteem for our young people and FYI some of our young women are plus size….thanks

  26. The shirts are SO expensive! We need them cheaper and definately larger. A little girls line would be great also, like toddler sizes and up. Many others feel the same way I do about the price and the size but have not gotten a response. Is the company making an effort???? Please respond. Thanks.

  27. I love the t-shirts, but I’m plus size, so I guess I’m not allowed to RICK!

  28. I was very proud of the show, and it made me as a black young woman feel so empowered! I was extremely excited to come and view the website and show my support! However viewing this site has left me very disappointed. Harlem World u have only responded to people asking about where to purchase a shirt from. It’s sad you don’t have the decency respond to everyone else interested in why the prices are so expensive and also why you are not offering plus size shirts! It’s disappointing that you are only catering to black girls that rock up to a certain size! You guys certainly Do NOT Rock!

  29. Black girls rock? YES THEY DO!!! I love you my black sistahs.

  30. I wanted to purchase some BGR tshirts for me & my girls for Christmas, but damn. Those prices are too high. Loving that black hoodie though!

  31. THE SHOW WAS WODERFUL BLACK GIRLS DO ROCK.BUT ALL BLACK GIRLS ARE NOT RICH,A FEW OF US ARE SHREDDING THE WATER AND WOULD LIKE TO RUN WITH THE BLACK GIRLS ROCK TEAM.MY GRAND DAUGHTER WAS SO EXCITED ABOUT THE SHOW. WE BOTH WANT A HOODIE, BUT YOUR PRICES APPARENTLY WERE NOT MEANT FOR LOW INCOME FAMILIES.
