El Far3i – Egypt Jan 25 (Prod. by Damar)

We went to YouTube to find the most popular Egyptian rap music on the site. After clicking on the highest “View Count” link, the video above was numero uno. The artists is El Far3i and the name of the track is Egypt Jan 25. We think it’s important since 116th Street is called “Little Africa” and it’s said that 46 languages are spoken on the 5 to 6 block strip.

After listing to the song we clicked on their Facebook page link and copied the info below:

Amman Page is a project set up by young illuminate-minded citizens gathered on the basis of their interest in alternative city through this social website in order to bring together people representing various homelands, places of residence and religious backgrounds,,, all together in Amman Page.

It is a positive project that aims to re-evaluating all suggestions so as to create quality of services and way of life, to the rehabilitation of the mind to become more enlightened, and to encourage free-thinking.

To Create an identifiable content for the city over the Internet, is the target of Amman page. i.e. When you read a question on the page, you find the answer in the feedback of the people- the city residents themselves, and this is called the Building of Shared/ Alternative Content or the Generated Content.

One of the page objectives is to re-design the written, read, visualized identity of the city and suite it up with its population as a whole from the East to the West regardless of their different trends and /or ideas and to fit them all together away from narrow interests, superficiality and shallowness.

Our City Guests would take days to wander through the pictures in Amman Page, which are donated by professional photographers and artists.

Finally, The extent of freedom in the Amman Page is quoted from the wisdom of His Majesty King Abdullah II, the “Freedom Limit is the Sky”

What do you think?

  1. Mohamad Ismail

    Hi,

Much respect to you for posting this!! The translated lyrics are copied below this email. The artist, who is a dear friend of mine, sent me this link and he send his peace to you. I’m in NY at the moment and I would love to connect with the Real in Harlem. In fact, one of our main goals in the Middle East now, which was inspired by Harlem’s history, is to spark and fuel a Harlem Renaissance of sorts back home. If you would like to connect, feel welcomed to contact me: Ismail1124@gmail.com

    Warm salaams,

    Mohamad

    Here are the lyrics:

    Egypt 25 by El Far3i
    Verse 1:

Paper and a pen in my hand, but words are weak
Because am sitting here at home on “departure Friday” (this is the Friday 1 week before Mubarak left…it was called jom3at el raheel as in the departure Friday)
I can’t tell whether these tears are of anger or sadness
What I know is that it is not form the tear gas.
What I know is that Jordan is not an Alternative country (to Palestine)
What am sure of, is that the Nile River refuses “Israel”
Nile Sat and their trials to hide
The honorable throats ,in Liberation Square.
Telling the ones outside it’s Egypt this time

This is to Jerusalem’s son, this is song is for “dark skinned girl” (Arab reference to beauty..and also one of Egypt’s nicknames)
Bouazizi ‘s (from Tunis) lighter, long live green Tunis

The mother of the universe has awakened, breast feed us revolution.
Revolution that cover us, revolution that keeps us worm at night
Like stories from the 50′s that our parents used to tell us.
They contain a glimpse of sadness and defeat
But the days have proven that it revived Nasser in us (Jamal Abdul Nasser)
You have put the whole world in an awkward situation
You “hard to get” boy!..(famous expression)
30 years I have waited for you, this is not too short of a period!
We got tired of always being ripped off, and our hearts are burning.
Hilary you son of a bitch, I don’t want to hear your analysis.
They don’t like the voice of truth when it’s winning
Egyptian: Say it.. Egyptian: Demand it!!
The whole world is watching you.
Because even the Media couldn’t lie on your streets.

    Chorus:
    Egyptian, you a teacher
    Egyptian, you educator
    I need no “International community”
    You speak on my behalf.
I saw you on the screens hurting….but happy

    Verse 2:
I have not been to Egypt yet, so am going to enter it proudly
Because since January 25 an earthquake have hit my body
I am concerned about your moves
Because my mom is form Jenin, Got Amman on my back and my father grew up in Gaza.
The lies of the international community have died last month.
When they said you will revolt out of poverty.
Do you think the Pharaoh will step down if Moses was here?

The whole world knows you are revolting because of frustration.
But Arab leaders are the ones that don’t support.
Am not sure but they really are not talking about it!
You didn’t want sidi bouzid to be the only one
You are beautiful when you’re saying “we ain’t moving!!”
They tried separating you by bringing religion up
But you stood in the streets saying “we are all Egyptians”.
Copts on Friday prayers protecting Muslims backs.
You made Julia Botros’s day with all these millions (Famous Lebanese singer Julia botros has a famous song called “where are the million?”
My melody is sad compared to you cheers.
That made separated Arabs, one people again.
The western world is shocked on “resistance Sunday Mass” (last Sunday before Mubarak stepeed down was called resistance Sunday mass, it was prayers for Copts in liberation square)
“Bilad Al orb Awtani” on Oud strings. (bilad al orb awtani is a very famous arab nationalist song)
So! My Egyptian brother I want to tell you the following
You have stopped time..like you the watchmaker
The people of this earth that are dying of hunger
Have eaten bean plants from the hands of your martyrs. (Egyptian people are famous for eating beans a lot because it is cheap..the reference here is the glimpse of freedom and will..That they made the rest of the world feel .)
Change is coming, I believe it is coming
Change have happened already if I give up my earthly pleasures (meaning attempts of reaching purity)
And even thought there is still long way to go
If there are any rules for the game you have changed my life.
    Chorus :
    Egyptian, you a teacher
    Egyptian, you educator
    I need no “International community”
    You speak on my behalf.
I saw you on the screens hurting….but happy
