Prince William and Kate Middleton have been named husband and wife by the Archbishop of Canterbury at Westminster Abbey in London. We asked Harlemites to respond to the now Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge‘s wedding dress?
Kass, HW fashion writer: The bride’s dress by Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen was breathtaking. The long-sleeved dress, was paired with a satin gazar pleated skirt accompanied by a nine foot train. The gown was made of English and French Chantilly lace and appliqué bodice, with a modestly plunging neckline, trimmed with hand cut individual lace flowers. The Duchess was accessorized with a handmade veil made of ivory silk tulle and lace trimmed with hand-embroidered flowers.
Ruth Terry Walden, writer and educator: She rocked the house! Channeling Grace Kelly–absolutely nothing wrong with that–my wish for them–love each other and their will be alright.
Sheavonne Harris, wedding expert, Sheavonne Events: I immediately thought of Grace Kelly’s wedding dress. I thought it complemented the duchess very well what a lovely vision of royal beauty.
Angela M. Gregory, wedding coordinator, The Riverside Church: Ms. Middleton’s wedding dress was absolutely lovely and will join the group of dresses we reference time and time again when we think of classic gowns–its simple design was a harmonious blend of the chaste elegance of Princess Grace’s gown, but bespoke of Ms. Middleton’s youthful, modern style. A gown indeed fit for a Duchess.
