Medicine for the Soul – Austin Brown

Dr. Randi Nelson

For this blog I am going to take off my white coat and put on my dancing shoes! There is an exciting newcomer to the music scene who is positioned to take the industry by storm.

The up and coming artist I am referring to is Austin Brown. He may not be a household name….YET…. but Austin hails from one of the most famous musical family ever – The Jacksons. Austin is the son of eldest child Rebbie Jackson of Centipede fame and is the nephew of the Michael and Janet Jackson. The 25 year old is set to release his EP this fall and full CD early next year. For his CD, Austin did the unheard of…he released a trailer in May 2011 that has garnered over 5.5 Million views on YouTube. Austin is a multi instrumentalist and his musical influences range from James Brown to his uncles and aunts to the Beach Boys!

Now most of my friends would say this review is biased because I am a SUPERFAN of The Jackson Family and I would rant and rave to them signing the alphabet in a foreign language, but I have been following Austin for some time now and he is justifiably creating quite a buzz. And why not! He is extremely talented, humble and the kid knows the history of music.  Comparison with Michael is evident…as one person noted there is an “air of Michael” to his high falsetto and performances although I think he reminds me more of James Brown and Jackie Wilson.

His 1st release off the CD “All I Need” is quite soulful with a modern infectious beat that could bring any clubgoer to his feet!

Austin is poised to bring Soul and Real music back, something that’s been lacking in contemporary R&B. He may be just what this doctor ordered.

“All I Need” is now available on Itunes and for your listening pleasure via his website:  www.austinbrown.com

  1. It’s so great to see young people pursue their artistic talents. I recently saw a great live performance at this unique “in the neighborhood” Jazz venue called Manna House in East Harlem, New York (www.mannahousejazz.org). It’s an intimate space where a lot of great Jazz artists play with their young students. If you’re interested in new, emerging talent, you should check it out.

  2. Very nice article. Good to see that Austin is appealing to a diverse popular of people. Only great talent can do that…

  3. Correction: not popular but population

  4. What a nice title to give that blog!

Well, it takes somebody with great taste to recognize great taste. Austin Brown absolutely deserves all the praise He’s getting already. He’s total GEM in the music scene right now!
