R.I.P.: Troy Davis, We Have To Work Harder (update)

After the U.S. Supreme Court rejected a stay in the execution of convicted cop killer Troy Davis, the state was allowed to proceed with the lethal injection.

Davis was declared dead at 11:08 pm EST on Wednesday night.

The 42-year-old Davis was put to death for the 1989 killing of an off-duty police officer in Savannah, Georgia.

Reports also stated that just moments before his death, Davis still maintained his innocence, telling the victim’s family that he was not guilty.

Troy Davis’ execution by the death is a sad night that could turn into a learning opportunity for America. We have to figure out better ways to adjudicate death penalty cases, from Harlem to Hollywood justice is perceived as not being equal for the victims or the accused.

Update: Last night on the corner of 125th Street and Adam Clayton Powell Blvd, a “Day of Vigil” for Troy Davis took place in front of the Harlem State Office Building at 6 pm.

One Response to R.I.P.: Troy Davis, We Have To Work Harder (update)

  1. Hotep! we must work harder meaning ,the way in which we protest is obviously Ineffective….not in terms of moral support but strategy.their must be an open a middle and closing plan ….are we speaking to individuals/ or are we speaking to institutions. are we filing affidavits.with seals or frustrations of plain paper.(non legal documents) there is a differance, and may be the reason judges are not listening! a notarized affidavit (document) is admisible in court as evidence.unnotarized are heresy inadmissible..we have got to get the protest proceedure right! also do we nknow how to rebutt a decision ….do we know how to remove a judge ,,,how to have them investigated,,how to try them in public court and make affidavits that affirm under the penalty our thoughts of them ?
