Every century the MTA renovates the subway underground, now they’re going back to the future. Train commuters will no longer have to stare at the grubby, grimy, graffiti-stained walls and floors waiting for the uptown 1 trains at the 168th and 181st street platforms.
MTA plans to revamp the stations and restore them back to their distinctive turn of the century architectural brilliance. MTA spokeswoman Deidre Parker said design plans include removing bricks with lighter material, repairing cracks and replacing the wooden rubber board on the platforms.
The constuction is planned to take place starting in the spring of 2012. Thereafter Harlemites can appreciate the historically rich city of architecture they live in, while traveling in total style.
