Harlem Civic Leaders to Call for Passage of Fair Wages for NYers Act at Riverside Church

In conjunction with Living Wage NYC — a diverse and growing coalition representing New Yorkers from across the five boroughs …— The Riverside Church will host NAACP President Benjamin Jealous, civil rights leaders, elected officials, faith leaders and community leaders among others, to demand living wage jobs for all New Yorkers and push for passage of the Fair Wages for New Yorkers Act.

With poverty and hunger are on the rise in New York City, this Thanksgiving many working poor New Yorkers won’t be able to afford a decent meal because they are not earning a living wage.

Participants include: Benjamin Jealous, President & CEO, NAACP; Rev. Dr. Jesse T. Williams, Jr., Senior Pastor, Convent Avenue Baptist Church; Ruben Diaz Jr., Bronx Borough President; Oliver Koppell, City Council member and lead sponsor of the Fair Wages for New Yorkers Act; Stuart Appelbaum, President of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU); Robert Jackson, City Council member; Daniel Garodnick, City Council member; Letitia James, City Council member; Daniel Dromm, City Council member; Melissa Mark-Viverito, City Council member; Jimmy Van Bremer, City Council member; Jumaane Williams, City Council member; Brad Lander, City Council member; Mathieu Eugene, City Council member; Margaret Chin, City Council member.

Monday, November 21, 6:30 p.m. at the Church, 490 Riverside Dr. (bet. 120^th & 122^nd St.), in the Morningside Heights area in Harlem.
