Sriya at Romio contributed to the Harlem World Magazine Network with a video created by roaming the streets of Harlem on Martin Luther Kings, Jr., Day, …… on Monday, January 16th, 2012, asking Harlemites:
“If Martin Luther King Jr. were alive today, what would his message be to the neighborhood?
Here are their answers:
What do you think his message would be to the neighborhood?

MLK die in vain. We haven’t done anything but make a mockery out of the work that he and my mother did back in the Civil Rights movement. Every other race has benefited from MLK’s work. We should be shamed of ourselves… A few of us gets toss a bone and we’re fine, but there are many who don’t get a bone and they are the ones who media focus on for black on black crimes and crimes in general. We need another taste of Jim Crow to get us back in unity…
That it is up to each person to search within him/herself and find that dream within and go out one by one and make it come truein his or her life and collectively the dream will go on. Dreams are over only when we wake up.
CBrantley,
I don’t think MLK died in vain. If he did you and I may not be here to have this discourse. And for those folks that are involved in crimes, let’s not let the minority be the voice for the majority.
Thank you for responding.

I will have to agree to disagree with you on this one…

MLK continues to serve as an inspiration to many. And so long as we remember his contribution to society, he will never be forgotten. He lives on in the decisions we make everyday to become positive examples for our community.
Let his life motivate us to be the best that we could be. Your words, your actions – have a direct affect on your immediate surroundings.
We cannot control society’s injustices, but we can control how we react.
I think if MLk were alive today, his message would be, “start with yourself”.
Ghandi once said, “Be the change you want to see in the world”.
Thank you, We’ll take it

will do… Thanks for your great articles…
Rechelle.
Well said. We have to start with ourselves, that’s the only thing we can control.
Thank you,
