Whitney ‘The Queen of Pop’ Houston, one of Harlem’s Greatest Love of All (video)

Harlem loved Whitney and Whitney loved Harlem. She may have been raised across the river in East Orange, but in Harlem, we mourned her passing as if she was a local.

Why? She filmed one of her first and most appreciated music videos “Greatest Love of All” on the stage at the Apollo Theater.

She dined at Sylvia’s, she sang at the Abyssinian Baptist Church.

She performed at the W. 138th St. church with her mother Cissy in an event hosted by the National Council of Negro Women, Inc.

In our own spiritual way, Whitney was one of us, she will always be one of Harlem’s greatest loves:

  1. My dearest Whitney,

Today, we rejoice you again for your home coming. There is tears and laughter among the many faces we see. Oh baby girl, spread your wings and sing with the angels.

May your soul now finally RIP. You will ALWAYS and FOREVER in my heart. :-( God bless you.
