The Petroleum Jelly Burgular In Harlem

Police in Manhattan are looking for a suspect wanted in connection with a burglary pattern, with incidents dating back to last year.

They said the man they are looking for rubbed petroleum jelly on apartment door peepholes to obstruct the view of his victims.

The incidents all took place in the Hamilton Heights, West Harlem, Washington Heights and Inwood sections of Harlem between Sept. 4 and March 8 of last year.

Authorities said the suspect removed items, including laptops, jewelry, cellphones, iPods, televisions, cigarettes and even bicentennial coins.

In all, the suspect is thought to be responsible for 14 incidents, 11 of them successful burglaries, according to the NYPD. No one was injured in any of the incidents.

The suspect is described as a clean shaven Hispanic man, between 50 and 60 years old with a dark complexion and close-cut hair. Police said he carries a can and wears a Yankees baseball cap and dark glasses.
