If you find yourself in Harlem, you should go to Columbia U Consignments, no excuses. I went to school in Morningside Heights and though the neighborhood is chock full of coffee shops and book stores, it lacks something by way of sartorial shopping destinations. Enter: Columbia U Consignments, which makes trekking up to Tiemann Place from 116th (or even 16th!) worth it.
Don’t underestimate the store’s small size (we know it doesn’t really matter anyways). The place is packed floor to ceiling, the owner is relaxed and helpful, and the bevy of merchandise hides designer wares would go for triple the price downtown. Just ask the $45 Gucci heels and $100 Armani dress I picked up on my last visit.
The best part, though, might be that if you love, love, love something and don’t have the cash on hand, you can place a down payment on it and come back for it the next time you’re in Harlem. That’s right, no more hiding your most coveted selection from other shoppers (and then forgetting where you put it later).
