Two historic venues, an ocean apart, battle it out this summer to find a star. Hackney Empire and the Apollo Theatre in Harlem will present their local winners on stage at the Empire in Hackney vs Harlem. Each venue will field 4 contestants (16+) and National pride is at stake as the winner takes home ‘a money can’t buy prize’ of a years professional mentoring, a soft release by Black Butter records, a trip to New York culminating with an appearance at the legendary Apollo Theatre in Harlem along with £2,000.
Four UK finalists were chosen from Live @The Empire on June 8. They will now represent the UK in the Grand Final: Hackney vs Harlem, Saturday 14th July.
The audience will pick the winner during a LIVE text vote, alongside a glittering panel of judges including; MOBO Queen, CEO and Founder Kanya King, Hackney’s homegrown chart-topping band Rudimental, Henry Village (CEO of Black Butter Records), Jasmine Dotiwala (The Voice columnist and former Head of MTV Base) and the inimitable Kojo (UK’s comic maestro and Choice FM DJ). Hosted by super-soap-star Tameka Empson and the amazing, mad, bad Kat B. DJ on the night Colourful Radio’s Elayne Smith.
