HW Pick: Giglio di Sant’ Antonio Feast in Harlem ’12

Join a time-honored tradition brought to East Harlem by Italians from Brusciano in early 1900s. The building of the Giglio will begin on Saturday July 28 at 8:00 AM between East 114 and East 115 Streets on Pleasant Avenue. The procession for St Anthony will be Saturday August 11th at 12:00 Noon. Participants will walk with with the statue from 116th to 106th Streets, with a visit to St Anne’s Church on 110th Street, and back to 114th Street. The Children’s Giglio will be danced on Saturday, August 11th at 6:00 PM. The Giglio will be danced Sunday, August 12th after the Paranza Mass at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Shrine Church at 1:00 PM.
