Sugar Hill in Harlem Celebrates Johnny Hartman

Heritage Health and Housing in partnership with NYC Department of Small Business Services, NYC Parks Department, NYC Police Department – 30th Pct., join forces for a special tribute to legendary jazz singer and famed Harlem resident Johnny Hartman.  Entitled, Johnny Hartman Was Here! “A Jazz Tribute to the Man, the Music, the Moment,” this FREE outdoor event, which is part of  Heritage Heights Village’s “Come Celebrate the Glory of Sugar Hill” commercial revitalization initiative, pays homage to the velvet voice balladeer’s outstanding contribution to music and his beloved uptown community. The concert and special Sidewalk Delights Merchants Festival takes place at Hartman Plaza, 143rd Street at Amsterdam Avenue and Hamilton Place.

Hosted by WBGO on-air talent Sheila Anderson and WHCR on-air talent Lamon Fenner, performances include Hartman’s daughter Lori Hartman, The Chuk Fowler Trio, Carlos Jimenez Jazz Quartet, The J.C. Styles Trio, Emme Kemp Trio and swing dancing with Luther.
