You probably have had some dough from Hot Bread Kitchen without even knowing it – the bakery ships its goods to many of the city’s top restaurants. Fans of Hot Bread (and we’re one of them) will soon be able to get their fix in Harlem. On Monday, the bakery will open a retail location in East Harlem dubbed Hot Bread Almacen (Almacen meaning “deposit, dry goods store. From Arabic al-majzan of makhzan (المخزن)” or “the storage” or “the depot.”). Shopping at this new outpost will support a good cause – Hot Bread works to train foreign-born and low income individuals so they can gain employment in the restaurant industry. To commemorate the opening on Monday, a symbolic loaf will be sliced
