Lanvin Features Harlem’s 82-Year-Young Dance Diva Jacquie Tajah Murdock

Advanced Style’s model Jacquie Tajah Murdock was born in Harlem is one of the latest stars of Lanvin‘s Fall/Winter 2012 campaign!

Jacquie, or “Tajah” as she is also called, was one of the original jazz dancers at the Apollo Theater and Savoy Ballroom in Harlem, is a part of her life you’d find it hard to miss if you visit her apartment.

Jacquie says:
“… I grew up in Harlem always wanting to be a model, but in my day there were very little opportunities for women of color to work in fashion. At 18 I went from agent to agent looking for jobs, even as a hand model. I have finally made it and I will never give up. Hopefully some day I will get to Paris!”
Her most vivid memories are of these days and times, dancing with some of the greats and being photographed in gowns of every fabric, length, and color…. She she has always loved fashion, and describes her personal style as “glamorous”, and “just being me”.
