Walter’s World: I’m Travelin Light- On My Way to South Kakalaki

By Walter Rutledge Make no mistake I am a true New Yorker! For me the sun rises over the East River and set across the Hudson.

As much as I love New York City, the Mecca of arts and culture, there is a part of me that misses a hearty breakfast of shrimp (pronounced scrimps) and grits with brown gravy; and riding my motorcycle down oak lined country roads ending up on a pristine beach in the coastal South Carolina low country.

The Phillis Wheatley Repertory Ensemble for Youth has provided leadership and  esteem building through the arts to the underserved youth of  Greenville, South Carolina for over twenty-seven years. I have had the privilege of working with this organization since 1993, presently I am back in Greenville working on their summer production that will début on August 4th.

I will resume my column from the “City the Never Sleeps” the week of August 6. We will keep you posted on the progress of my latest adventure. As always thank you for letting me share my world with you.
