The Black Church Music Experience Concert

 

On Thursday, July 26 through Sunday, July 29, The St Paul Baptist Church Music Ministry, Dr. B. Dexter Allgood, Minister of Music, will present, “The Black Church Music Experience Workshop”… focusing on music from the Black Church- hymns, spirituals, gospel, contemporary gospel and anthems.  The four day music workshops, panel discussion and concert will take place at the St Paul Baptist Church, Reverend, Dr. V. DuWayne Battle, Pastor,  249 W. 132nd Street (between Frederick Douglass & Adam Clayton Powell Blvds), Harlem, New York. Musicians, singers, choir directors, choir members and those who love to sing or have an interest in the Black Church Music Experience are invited to join in and participate.

The special guest workshop leader is Dr. Olga Gathers, Minister of Music at Israel Baptist Church, Washington, DC. Dr. Gathers will conduct music workshops, on Thursday, 7:00 PM, Friday, 7:00 PM and Saturday, afternoon. On Saturday, 9;00 AM there will be a panel discussion on, “The State of Sacred Music in the Black Church”, the panelist are: Ministers of Music,  Ms. Patrice Turner, First Corinthian Baptist Church, Mr. James Davis, Abyssinian Baptist Church, Mr. Gregory Hopkins, Convent Avenue Baptist Church, and Ms. Gwen Moten, Cultural Services/Newark, NJ.This dynamic panel will provided important incite and history on, “The Black Church Music Experience”. On Sunday, July 29, @ 3:00 PM the workshop will culminate with The Black Church Music Experience Concert. The suggested donation for Workshops participants is $20.00. There is no charge for the panel discussion and concert. All are welcome to join in praise, worship, song, discussion and support of, “The Black Church Music Experience”.
