Due to circumstances beyond our control we were unable to list our Weekend Picks on Thursday. One of our staffers came up with the brilliant idea to do a weekday listing of upcoming events. In the words of Napoleon Banaparte “A good general knows how to his battle plan in the heat of battle”. So on that note here are some of the events taking place around the city and around our community.

The Sensational Josephine Baker, is a musical portrait of the one and one iconic Jazz Age legend, Josephine Baker. The musical opens backstage at Bakers triumphant 1975 comeback performance Joséphine à Bobino. The musical then takes the audience on a retrospective of her amazing life and career. Written and performed by Cheryl Howard and directed by Ian Streicher, this one women show features several of Baker’s signature songs as it journeys from conservative St. Louis, Missouri to the risqué cabarets of the Rue Pigalle, France. Howard delivers this tale through an array of fascinating female characters: Josephine’s domineering mother, Carrie McDonald; fellow chorus girl Lydia Jones; Ada “Bricktop” Smith, owner of the infamous nightclub Bricktop’s in Montmarte.
