Virgin Islands United is heading to New York City for Labor Day to put on its annual Caribbean Cultural Fest promoting and celebrating the Virgin Islands.
The festival takes place from 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday in Jackie Robinson Park in Harlem and is a showcase of Virgin Islands culture, music, dancing and celebration.
The large outdoor music concert and shopper’s bazaar, features live Caribbean music and a vendor’s plaza filled with Caribbean food, beverages and novelties. The festival is the signature event of Virgin Islanders United and is an annual event free to the public.
The festival will feature a variety of musical entertainment, including Calypso Rose, The Mighty Swallow, Winston Soso and the Virgin Islands 2012 Road March Champions – The Awesome Spectrum Band. Other highlights include performances by The Heart Attack Band; Outta Limitz, featuring Elizabeth Watt; The J.C. Caribbean Dancers; and the Mocko Jumbie Review.
Caribbean Cultural Fest is a component of “Virgin Islands Weekend In New York,” which also includes a Virgin Islanders United Town Hall Meeting and Job Fair from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Sylvia’s Restaurant. Following the town hall meeting, a job fair and networking mixer will take place for Virgin Islanders and others currently residing in the mainland United States who are interested in pursuing employment opportunities in the territory can learn about and apply for available positions.
Virgin Islanders United Inc. is a non-partisan organization and is a member of the V.I. Tourism Department’s Ambassadors program, in which V.I. organizations partner with the department to promote the territory and drive traffic to the USVI.
