Cicely Tyson was born (December 19, 1933) and raised in Harlem, New York by William Tyson and Theodosia Tyson. The photo above is from stunning couple in August 1968 attending the premiere of ‘The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter’ in New York City. Tyson married legendary jazz trumpeter Miles Davis on November 26, 1981, and they were married for three-and-a-half years. The matter of Davis’ physical (and emotional) abuse of Tyson has been a source of great frustration.

Cicely Tyson probably was attracted to Miles beauty and Music in 1964 to 1968 when pictured. He was Julliard trained and had a natural gifting for Jazz arrangements. His SOUND was incredible, the notes long and sexy. No one could truly mimic his horn. My favorite is Flamenco Sketches where he’s joined by the alto and tenor sax of Cannonball Adderly and John Coltraine one year before John creates his own epic Naima and Favorite Things! By the time Cicely married Miles in 1981 all that creative beauty had changed drastically. I believe the abuse she suffered was because of his own Torment. I am glad she had the wisdom to realize she couldn’t fix it.
