Michael Strahan has been picked to partner with Kelly Ripa on her morning syndicated “Live! With Kelly” show according to staffers at ABC in New York City.
Several staffers said the talk in the building is that Strahan a Harlem World Magazine favorite who of course played with the NY Superbowl Giants and won a Super Bowl ring is the new co-host.
Word has it that Strahan’s rep was seen outside the building on 67th and Columbus a short time grinning like the Joker from ear to ear.
Strahan tried out for the gig in June and apparently impressed the suits.
We caught up with HW sports writer Marc “The Raz” Rasbury who said, “That one caught me off guard but he has the personality to pull it off.”
Strahan is one of several new faces in daytime television this fall. Steve Harvey begins a new talk show on Tuesday. Katie Couric, Ricki Lake and Jeff Probst also have new shows starting in the next couple of weeks.
Strahan, currently a host of “Fox NFL Sunday,” towers over his co-host, who barely reaches his shoulders when they stand next to each. When they sit next to each other, the seats are adjusted to minimize the difference.
Strahan is 6’5″, Kelly is 5’3″, they may look like an odd couple, but dancing and the jokes should be fun (Strahan likes to joke about Tim Tebow getting laid).
