This summer was a scorcher! Summer fashions before Fashion Week were all the rage. In celebration of the love of fashion, Kass Fashion & Harlem World Magazine sponsored The First Annual “For the love of Fashion”, spring/summer fashion show in Harlem, New York.
The show featured up and coming womens wear designers D.A.L., B. Blake and male furnishings designer Alexis Alister. Held at Londel’s new lounge, the L-Lounge located on 115th & 8th Avenues in Harlem, NY., the venue offered a cozy intimate setting, with the comfort of Bar or Sofa seating and happy hour.
The show kicked off with a performance by Harlem’s own R&B soul singer Johnny Johnson. Mr. Johnson wooed the crowd with a rendition of My, My, My by Johnny Gill. The musical performance made way for designer I, Alexis Alister showing of custom-made bowties that offer the versatility of reversible patterns in fashion forward colors and prints. The bowties were modeled by handsome male models which gave everyone a whole new perspective on male furnishings!
The next designer was B. Blake, a funky fashion driven womenswear line designed by Harlemite Avaleen Blake. The B. Blake collection offered funky trendy pieces that were a mesh of fabrications and prints including sheer, jersey cotton, heavy cottons and brocades trimmed with hand studded appliques.
My personal favorite piece was a copper colored 2 piece-sheer and sequence outfit. The outfit consisted of an asymmetrical sheer top hand studded with sequence to play off the sexy sequence hot pants which lengthened the models legs as she sashayed down the catwalk.
B. Blake S/S ‘12
The last presentation featured the DAL collection by Clarence Lee. Mr. Lee presented a classic collection reminiscent of the 40’s with a mesh of current fashion trends. Hemlines were dropped in favor of elongated silhouettes, with fabrication made from rich heavy brocades, meshed with silks and cotton. DAL’s use of contrast in fabrication and print proved to be simply amazing!
Overall, the show was an enjoyable afternoon of Music and Fashion! Special thanks to Harlem World Magazine for sponsoring the event and the L-Lounge for hosting the Event.
