Common Sense Media, with the NYC DOE, NYC Council and other partners, are hosting Digital Citizenship Day on October 2nd. The goal is to build awareness around digital citizenship as a set of defined, teachable skills that schools can easily and effectively incorporate into their classrooms. They have a kit available for schools to download that includes classroom lessons and related materials that teach students the critical 21st century skills that enable them to engage with technology safely and responsibly, and in doing so maximize the potential of technology to inspire and personalize their learning. Also provided are tips for families on how to best engage and educate children on these important topics. The hope is that every school in Harlem, NY participates in Digital Citizenship Day in some way, whether it’s as simple as distributing a family tip sheet or teaching an actual lesson.
The day will culminate in a Town Hall at LaGuardia HS in Manhattan from 5:00 – 6:30 pm, moderated by Harlem favorite MTV’s Sway. It’s a teen friendly, as well as educators and parents!
