Google announced their self-driving car project in 2010 to make driving safer, more enjoyable, and more efficient. Having safely completed over 200,000 miles of computer-led driving, they wanted to share one of their favorite moments. On March 10, 2012, Google was Joined by Steve Mahan who joined them for a special drive on a carefully programmed route to experience being behind the wheel in a whole new way. They organized this test as a technical experiment, but they think it’s also a promising look at what autonomous technology may one day deliver if rigorous technology and safety standards can be met.
2-3 months later, the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles has approved the license for a license application to test autonomous vehicles on Nevada public roads on Monday, May 7, 2012.
It is the first license issued in the United States under new laws and regulations that put Nevada at the forefront of autonomous vehicle development.
