Perkins Eastman is designing a new four-floor, 63,000 sf home for the DREAM charter school and Harlem RBI offices in East Harlem. The DREAM school’s educational approach is rooted in the belief that health and wellness education are essential components of a student’s development. Honoring this vision, the school was designed to be LEED Certified.
Located at the base of a new affordable housing tower also designed by Perkins Eastman, the 450-student K-8 school includes new office space for Harlem RBI, a well-established community organization in East Harlem and the DREAM school’s institutional partner that provides year-round sports, education, and enrichment activities. Public spaces include a gymnasium, cafeteria, fitness room, and multi-purpose room.
The new building reenergizes the streetscape by orienting light-filled, open spaces toward the street, reviving the local park, and opening up many of the facilities for use by the community–an amenity for both the school and community.
