We want to give props to Starbucks for the work they are doing in Harlem. Over the past year, Starbucks partnered with the Harlem Community store in Harlem resulting in $113,000 contribution to Abyssinian Development Corporation headed by CEO Sheena Wright (left and Lisa Price, founder of Carol’s Daughter in Harlem, on the right). Since October 2011, contributions from Starbucks and the Harlem Community store have supported a variety of ADC’s programs including education, workforce development and affordable housing. ADC’s School Turnaround initiative continues to make an impact on the more than 2,100 students attending Abyssinian Schools: Thurgood Marshall Academy, Bread & Roses Integrated Arts High School and MS 80.
The community store funds the ADC program YouthBuild which teaches local kids skills to help them in the workforce and prepare them for college.
Starbucks just expanded the program and opened a third location in Houston’s East End neighborhood and also in opportunity for Starbucks to directly engage the Hispanic community in Houston by partnering with the Association for the Advancement of Mexican Americans.
How are you making a difference in Harlem?
