Tour of Harlem Cultural Jewel During Harlem Arts Advocacy Week

Guided Trolley Tour to Bring Imagining America Conference Attendees, General Public to Studio Museum, Schomburg Center and Harlem Stage on Friday, Part of Harlem Arts Advocacy Week’12

Harlem arts and culture connect to the nation’s arts scene as Imagining America  (IA)—a consortium of universities and organizations dedicated to advancing the  public and civic purposes of humanities, arts and design—heads Uptown. A guided  bus tour will bring visitors and conference attendees to three renowned Harlem arts institutions—The Studio Museum in Harlem, The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture and Harlem Stage/The Gatehouse. Participants will  learn firsthand about the significance and impact of each institution and about   unique collaborations between the arts, business and education that are fueling Harlem’s current resurgence as a vibrant center for arts and commerce. The event  is a part of the Harlem Arts Summit during Harlem Arts Advocacy Week, a week-  long series of free events promoting Harlem arts treasures presented by the HARLEM Arts Alliance (HAA), the central connection to Uptown arts and culture.  For more information, visit www.harlemaa.org.

Presenters will include Barbara Askins, CEO, 125^th Street Business Improvement District; Wayne Benjamin, director, Harlem Community Development Corporation; Patricia Cruz, executive director, Harlem Stage/The Gatehouse; Laura Greer, director of programming, Apollo Theater Foundation; Robin Bell-Stevens, president & CEO, Jazzmobile; Marcia Lynn Sells, associate dean, Columbia University; Patrice Walker-Powell, deputy chair, National Endowment for the Arts.

Friday, October 5, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Tour begins at Studio Museum in Harlem (1:00 p.m.), heads to The Schomburg  Center for Research in Black Culture (2:00 p.m.), then heads to Harlem Stage/The Gatehouse (3:00 p.m.)
