Alicia Keys Performs on the Tom Joyner Morning Show

This morning on the Tom Joyner Morning Show,  Harlem’s Alicia Keys performed an unreleased song from her new album, Not Even the King (“One of [her] favorite songs on the album”) live in studio. Keys opened up about family (husband Swizz Beatz and son Egypt), what inspired her latest album, and destiny. Alicia was in Joyner’s studio at 5:30 AM this morning and performed the new cut while playing on his red Baby Grand Piano as part of the Toyota/Tom Joyner In Studio Jam series.

Even for the early hour, Keys was upbeat and energetic. She noted that her two-year-old son, is quick to pick up on a beat, as he clapped along to the music at a recent Cirque du Soleil performance they attended. Regarding her new album, coming out on November 27th,  Alicia reminisced on all she’s been doing and what this current music means to her.

Tom Joyner: If you had to do it all over again, and we have things like Idol and The Voice, do you think it would have been the same if you had to do it all over again in 2012?

Alicia Keys:I like to believe in destiny. It’s very very different but in a way it’s kind of cooler because you’re able to take things into your own hands and you know give yourself platforms that maybe you didn’t always have 10 years ago.

In response to where she is today: I’m back with Girl on Fire and it is just speaking to everything I am, and who I am, and what I feel, and what I want to say and I am in love with this music.
