Black Girls Rocks! (BGR!) 2012 aired on BET Sunday Nov 4th. BGR! founded by DJ Beverly Bond, is a non-profit youth empowerment and mentoring organization established to promote the arts for young women of color as well as to encourage dialogue and analysis of the ways women of color are portrayed in the media.
Black Girls Rock! 2012 honored Dr. Hawa Abdi and Her daughters with the Social Humanitarian award, Singer Alicia Keys with the Rock Star award, Singer Janelle Monae with the Young Gifted and Black award, Singer Dionne Warwick with the Living Legend award, Actress Kerry Washington with the Star Power award and Susan Taylor with the Inspiration award.
The presenters were Gabrielle Union, Meagon Good, Eva Longeria, Marsha Ambrosius and Taraji P. Henson. On hosting duty again were actresses Regina King and Tracee Ellis Ross. Gracing the stage with their fantastic performances this year were honoree Alicia Keys, Brandy, Ciara, India Arie, Keyshia Cole, SWV and other special guests.
Much respect to Harlem’s own Alizé Beal Co-founder and Director of Marketing of Y.U.N.G. Harlem and Co-founder of Y.U.N.G. Harlem Tiffany Bender who were recognized for their work in the community as Making A Difference (MAD) girls.
