The New York Cares Coat Drive is more important than ever in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy. We are aiming to collect a record 200,000 coats this year so residents in hard-hit areas can be warm this winter.
All information on how to make an important difference in the lives of those affected by the storm – and for all New Yorkers in need – is located below and on the navigation to the left. Donate coats? Start your own coat drive? Find out where to drop coats off? It’s all here.
Fact: In a normal year, 90% of homeless adults need a new, warm coat each winter because they have no place to keep one over the summer months. But this year, it’s not just homeless people who need our help; thousands of New Yorkers have been displaced and left out in the cold or in shelters as a result of the storm, creating unprecedented demand for warm coats.
Fact: Last year, with your help, New York Cares collected 78,000 coats. To meet the urgent need this year, New York Cares needs to collect 200,000 coats before the end of the year. That’s a lot more and New Yorkers are depending on every one of them.

- Beginning October 15th – Register a team to collect coats. You do not need to be a registered volunteer to collect coats.
