Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer, Chair of the Cultural Affairs, Libraries and International Intergroup Relations Committee is making a public announcement that could have a significant impact on the city’s 1,200-plus non-profit cultural organizations in all five boroughs. The announcement will come at an event at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 8 at MoMA PS1 in Long Island City, Queens.
Councilman Van Bramer will be addressing the One Percent for Culture campaign, an unprecedented collaboration across New York City’s cultural community that was formed in response to a decade of shrinking budgets and annual reductions in financial support from the city.
One Percent for Culture is aimed at educating New Yorkers about the value of non-profit culture to New York City. By generating support, the coalition seeks to garner a commitment from the city to ensure that non-profit cultural organizations in all five boroughs and in all neighborhoods receive one percent of the municipal expense budget annually.
Following the announcement, the councilman and members of the One Percent for Culture coalition will be available to address questions from members of the media.
