Cervical cancer affects more than 11,000 women worldwide annually. According to the National Cancer Institute, African-American women are 40 percent more likely to develop cervical cancer and twice as likely to die from it. “My own fertility journey has made cervical cancer a cause that is even closer to home for me,” shared Alikay Naturals founder & natural hair YouTube veteran Rochelle Graham. “Though cervical cancer can be prevented many young women don’t get the screening that could save their lives.”
The Cervical Cancer Awareness event took place at Swing, 1960 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd (at 118TH Street), in Harlem. The vent was hosted by natural hair vlogger, Rochelle Graham/BlackOnyx77 and Valincia Saulsberry from the Style Network’s “Chicagolicious,” on January 19th, 2013 in Harlem. Models wore the latest in “Curl-Walk” style looks from Wellington Hair Spa, Swing Boutique and Alikay Naturals.
The event supports the Foundation for Women’s Cancer.
