The view north along the Broadway center mall in 1937, you can see the main gates of Columbia University on the right and Barnard College and Riverside Church on the left. At the time of this photo West 116th Street was still open to vehicular traffic and street cars were still in operation (see street car coming south on the left). The street car tracks are still in place today beneath a layer of asphalt pavement (source).
